OPERA HOI'SE. “The Widow From Monte Carlo." one of the most hilarious comedy romances of the year, will be screened at the Opera House to-night. The story tells of the highly spiced adventure and love affair of a Duchess, a warm blooded South American beauty who has married into an English family of the nobility, and whose search for diversion after the death of het husband quite shocks her highly proper British “in-laws." A gay and debonair major who runs across the Duchess in a gambling palace at Monte Carlo is largely responsible for the series of exciting and romantic adventures the two pursue together. The cast includes \\ arren William, Dolores Del Rio. Colin Clive, Herbert Mttndin, Olin Howland, and Warren Hynier, “SHIPMATES FOREVER." Although not a musical, those who appreciate Dick Powell's fine voice, will not be disappointed in “Shipmates Forever.” which is to have a return screening on Monday. With three excellent song hits and a firstclass story woven round life in the Cnited States Navy, “Shipmates -Forever” can be classed as one of the brightest’shows'. * This' production depicts all sides of life as experienced by midshipmen. Dramatic to a degree that is exciting, the film also has its lighter side. There is an excellent supporting programme, including the sensational coloured Musical “Memories and Melodies.” REGENT THEATRE. Fourteen of Hollywood’s most- gifted child actresses support Miriam Hopkins. Merle Oberon, and Joel McCrea in “These Three.” the powerful drama to be shown to-night, and Monday. Heading the group are Bonita Granville. Marcia Mae Jones. Carmencita Johnson and Mary Louise Cooper. The story is set in a New England girls' school, and outlines how the lie of one vicious child almost ruined the lives of three innoct nt adults. Miriam Hopkins and Merle Oberon are cast as the teacherowners of the school, who suffer from the child’s gossip, and McCrea is seen as the young doctor whom both girls love. Bonita Granville scores an outstanding hit of the season as Mary Tilford, the troublesome student. Marcia Mae Jones plays Rosalie, her unwilling accomplice. Also prominent are Broadway stage stars, Catherine Doucet and Alma Kruger. PLAYS “POP.” Al Lydell. the veteran vaudevillian and creator of old men characterisations. plays “Pop” in “The Eagle’s Brood,” featuring William Boyd and Jimmy Ellison, and coming on Tuesday to the Regent Theatre. SCHAEF’S DANCE An invitation is extended to all dance lovers, to join the happy throng at Schaef’s Hall this evening. This popular week-end dance will he at its best to-night. The Royal Star Dance Band, at the top of its form, will supply the music. BLAKETOWN HALL A short night dance will be held in the Blaketown Hall on Monday evening and learners are especially invited. MID-WINTER BALL. On Monday evening, the Gladstone Hall Committee are staging a Grand Mid-Winter Ball, and keen interest is being taken in the event by dancing enthusiasts. Music will he provided by the Mayfair Orchestra, and there will be Modern, Old-time, and Novelty dances. Kennedy Bros, will provide a service, leaving the Post Office at 8.30, and returning after the Ball. Tuesday being the King’s Birthday, and a holiday for many, the MidWinter Ball provides an opportunity for a really good “night out" with no next day worries. ANNUAL RAILWAY BALL Tuesday July 14, is rapidly drawing near for the greatest event of its kind in Greymouth’s history. The .date being the Railway Carnival Ball, the place Schaefs Hall. The energetic committee have been hard at work for several weeks past concentrating mainly upon the decorations, these alone will make one of the most spectacular sights yet presented at Schaefs. The Rhythm Dance Band, Hokitika and the Gaiety Greymouth are undergoing special practices in order to present the best for the well arranged Old Time and Modern programme. Another important item is the novelties, many of which will be entirely new to West Coast dancers, the Committee aiming to supply the best and plenty of it. The supper will be held at Harker's Tea Rooms.
