Regarding the Motimahal film fire disaster, the “Daily Herald’s” Madras correspondent says: A Hyderabad official’s wife, by improvising a fire escape, saved many lives. She tore off her gaily-coloured sari, and tied it to a balcony railing, thus enabling forty persons, including herself, to slide down to the auditorium, whence they escaped. AUSTRALIAN LOAN. LONDON, June 16. The Associated Press understands that the success of the conversion loan may be gauged from the fact that cash applicants received only 68 per cent, of their requirements. The ‘Evening News” says: Cash applicants for the Australian loan up to £lO,OOO received full allotment, and thereafter the basis of allotment was approximately 657. per cent, of the requirements.
