Mr. H. A. Martin left to-day, on return to Christchurch.

Miss R. Smith left by this morning’s express for Christchurch.

Mr. T. Bustard left to-day, on return to Wanganui.

Mr. A. T. B. Lowry left this morning, on a holiday visit to Christchurch.

Mr. G. Kirkpatrick and Miss A. Kirkpatrick left to-day for Christchurch.

Messrs. 11. J. Bignell and R. Wild left to-day. on a visit to Christchurch.

Miss J. Fowler was a passenger by this morning’s express to Christchurch.

Mr. T. Crankshaw left to-day for Wellington, to rttend.a conference of the New Zealand Returned . Soldiers’ Association. Mrs. Crankshaw accompanied him to Christchurch.

Passengers by yesterday's express from vmristchurch included Messrs D. Innes (Springfield), R. G. Pattinson. P. Bankier, L. G. Cope, and H. Clarke.

Mr G. R. Herron, of Southland, has heen appointed as President at the annual meeting of the Dominion Group of the Herd Testing Federation. —Press Assn.

Mr IT. Gladstone Hill, for the last four years musical director of Derry’s Military Band and lieutenant-band-master’ of the Canterbury Yeomanry Cavalry, is leaving Christchurch to take up residence in Australia. Mr Hill has accepted a post of adviser and arranger for military and brass bands.

Mr. C. A. Legg, Stationmaster, Greymouth, who has been on annual leave to Christchurch, will raturn by this afternoon’s express to Greymouth. Mr. J. Ryall, who has been relieving stationmaster in Mr. Legg’s absence, will leave on Thursday, on return to Christchurch.

Mr. R. S. Cochrane, Chief Train Running Officer, Greymouth, has received notice of transfer to Frankton Junction. He will be replaced at Greymouth by Mr. A. Croft, Addington, who will commence duty on June 23. Mr. Cochrane commences annual leave to-morrow, and will be relieved by Mr G. Allison, of Christchurch.

A Sydney cablegram reported the death of the Reverend Father Joseph Herring, aged 53 years. He collapsed while taking part in the Corpus Christi procession at Manly. He was educated at St. Patrick’s College, Wellington, and was ordained by the late Archbishop Redwood in 1909. He did parish work at Wellington, Reefton and Whahgarei.

The death occurred on May 26, at Tuncurry, Australia, of Mr John Hardy, formerly of Ruru, and Te Kinga. He was a native of Australia, 55 years of age, and had suffered from heart, trouble for many years. He was engaged in the timber industiy in New Zealand for about 14 years, and returned to Tuncurry about ten years ago. He is survived by his widow, three sons, and four daughters, two of the latter being in New Zealand. Deceased was the uncle of Miss Kathleen Kennewell and Mr James Kennewell, of Kuinara, formerly of Te Kinga.

The death occurred at Christchurch oil Sunday night of Mrs. Maria O’Connor, relict of Edward O’Connor, aged 82 years. She had been in failing health for a number of years. For many years liar late husband taught, in the Catholic Schools in Christchurch, later opening the Catholic Depot,. opposite the Cathedral of the Blessed Sacrament. She is survived by six. sons, Rev. Father John O’Connor, S.M. (Whangarei), Messrs Thomas, Patrick, Leo, Bernard and Joseph, and two daughters, Misses Mary and Katherine (all of Christchurch). The daughters are choirmistress and organist respectively of • the Catholic Cathedral at Christchurch. The funeral takes place to-morrow morning, and will bo attended by Very Rev. Father J. Long (Graymouth), Rev. Father D. Healv (Kumara), who left, this morning and Rev. Fathers O’Meeghan (Ahaura) and Brown (Ross), who left last evening.
