HOCKEY

SEASON OPENED. The West Coast Hockey Association opened its 1936 season, on the Recreation Ground, on Saturday. Conditions were ideal, and some interesting hockey was witnessed. Although they did not have a full team, Cobden proved too good for Wesley, whom they defeated by foui’ goals to nil. The scorers for the winners were De Freatus, Eatwell and Butler, while D. Hpwell secured Wesley’s only goal. Pacific were the other successful team, defeating Mawhera by three goals to ne, mainly as the result of better play in the forward line. Coffey (2), and S. Knapp scored the goals for the winners, and W. Ryan netted for Mawhera. The referees were Messrs. W. E. Newton and K. E. Balchin. IN OTHER CENTRES. AUCKLAND, May 9. Grammar Old Boys 4, Mt.
