A pronounced weakness in. wheat today follows in the wake of statistics showing there was a large increase in the world shipments of wheat last week. The quotation closed two and a-half cents per bushel lower, the May figure, being 823. SYDNEY \VOOL SALES. SYDNEY, February 11. At to-day’s wool sales 10,723 bales were offered, and 10,243 were sold, also 704 bales were disposed of privately. The -tone of the market was very firm with a hardening tendency for -better class skirtings. Greasy merino made to 293. CONTINENTAL PURCHASES LONDON, February 11. Antwerp, -futures, drycombed Australian tops, March 283 d, May-July, 29d. The Continent does not follow the lead of the English industry which is maintaining a high rate of consumption. Users of tops abroad are reluctant to increase commitments, in view of the difficulty of obtaining higher prices for yarns. Spinners, therefore, ,are buying only for immediate requirements.
