The question of eight-oared rowing was discussed by the Wellington Rowing Association, the general feeling being that eights would replace pairs and double sculls on future New Zealand programmes. It was considered that the time is not distant when eightoared events would appear on Wellington local programmes. Auckland had already realised that public opinion had a leaning toward eights, as being more spectacular’ from the spectators’ point of view. The Wellington Association heartily supported Auckland’s viewpoint. It was recognised that a difficulty at the present time was the expense of acquiring of eight oared boats but members agreed that if attractive enough prize money were offered, entries would be forthcoming.
