FRANCHISE AND ORIENTALS. [BY CABLE PRESS ASSN. COPYRIGHT.] OTTAWA, February 10. Compulsory voting with an election expenses limitation was advocated by Mr Bennett, the Opposition Leader, in his speech on the Address-in-Reply to the Throne. The new trade treaty with the United States was attacked as an improvident one by Mr Bennett. Mr Angus Maclnnis (Co-operative Commonwealth Federation) gave notice of a resolution either for the granting of the franchise ti all Orientals or for excluding all of them from Canada. If the Oriental, he said, was good enough to be a resident of Canada, he was good enough to vote, if he were not good enough to vote, he should be elsewhere.
SOCIAL CREDIT. EDMONTON, February 10. Tho Provincial Secretary of Alberta, Mr. Manning, states that a Bill will be introduced in the Provincial Legislature this session- to enable the Cabinet to establish social credit regulations by proclamation without reference to the legislature. He declines to reveal the terms of the measure. MAJOR DOUGLAS’S COMMENT (Rec. February 12, 10 a.m.) EDMONTON. February 11. On tho demands of De Liberal Leader. Mr. T-Towson, and the Conservative Leader, Mr. Duggan, a special committee of the Legislature will probe the alleged London remarks of Major Douglas, which were declared to be offensive to both the Canadian and Alberta Governments, regarding the proposed Dominion loan council. It is. alleged that he stated: “If the provinces allow the remaining autonomies in regal’d to the most important factor of their constitution, finances, to be filched away from them. 1 have little doubt that Democracy is doomed.”
