Bright batting was a feature of the South Africans' and Gloucester’s innings.

Dalton was the sixth South African to complete a thousand runs for. the season. Viljoen batted 190 minutes and hit fifteen fours.

Barnett hit forty-six out of fifty-four in half an hour. Hammond was batting for 133 minutes. He hit sixteen fours, reminiscent of his old time form, causing bright hopes for the Test. Scores:
