SHIPPING NOTES.

Captain Nalder has the mastership of the Gael, and is being succeeded by Captain- Tredegar, of Nelson. Captain Nalder has accepted an appointment with the K.D.V. Company, of Auckland, which is beginning sawmilling operations near the Big Wanganui River. Waitapa has been secured for this service. It is understood Captain Nalder will make his home in Greymouth.

Karepo was expected to sail this af---ternoon for Melbourne and Adelaide. Kartigi was expected to sail this afternoon for Miramar, Wellington, Auckland and Portland. Kanna arrived in the roadstead at 8 o’clock last evening, and .was expected to berth this afternoon. She loads for Wellington, Napier and New Plymouth. - Totara left Dunedin at 5.30 p.m. yesterday. with cargo for Greymouth. On arrival, she loads for New Plymouth. Kiwitea is due Monday to load for Wellington and Miramar. Kaimiro left Westport early this, morning. She loads for Auckland on arrival here.

Gael left yesterday afternoon for Hokitika, whence she proceeds to-morrow to Okuru. James Cook left Westport at one o’clock yesterday afternoon for Greymouth, but was unable to work this morning’s tide, and will berth this afternoon.

Abel Tasman is due Monday from Dunedin and loads timber for Newcastle, Sydney and Melbourne.

Port Waikato is due about August 23 to load timber for Sydney.

Alexander arrived early this morning from Picton and Wanganui to load coal for Dargaville. Titoki is, due this evening from Tarakohe and Westport, which port she left at 12.20 p.m. to-day, and loads coal for Gisborne and Napier. Kaitoa is due this evening from Wellington and Westport, whence she sailed at 11.35 a.m. with general cargo and sails to-morrow evening with timber for Petone. 'Pe Aroha left for Hokitika at noon to-day and loads there for Wellington. OTHER PORTS. PORT CHALMERS, August 9. Sailed at 7 p.m. on the Bth., Totara, for ’Greymouth. SUVA, August 9.

The Hoegh Trader, temporarily repaired by local divers, sailed for Sydney. NAPIER. August 9. Arrived, Matakana, from Gladstone (Australia). WESTPORT, August 9. Sailed at 11.35 a.m., Kaitoa, 12.20 p.m., Titoki, both for Greymouth. MELBOURNE, August 9. Sailed: Canadian Victor, for Auckland.
