BOYS’ CAMP. (Press Assn. —Copyright) RUGBY, August 8. The Duke of York joined .400 boys under canvas at a holiday camp, at which the boys, drawn equally from industry and public schools, meet each year. The camp, which is near Southwold in Suffolk, started on Saturday, and is divided into 20 sections for better management, and to promote healthy competition in games and camp life generally. HAIL IN CANADA OTTAWA, August 8. The hail damage in Alberta in recent weeks is the worst foi- years, states Dr. T. W. Gundley, head of the Agricultural Branch of the Bureau of Statistics. Four hundred thousand acres were damaged, and in some districts crops were entirely destroyed by hail. The damage was lighter in Saskatchewan and Manitoba.
, NAVAL TALKS RUGBY, August 8. It is understood that Captain Danckwerts is in Paris, representing the British Admiralty, and is in touch with the French Ministry of Marine. His visit may lead within the next few weeks to the resumption of definite discussions between French and British naval experts on the naval programmes of the two countries. FIRE ON WARSHIP. QUINCY (Massachusetts), August 7. Damage estimated at 100,000 dollars was caused by a fire on ‘ the United States Navy’s newest 10,000-ton cruiser, the “Quincy.” The fire was largely confined to an expensive master switchboard in the engine-room.
