PAKEHA’S MISHAP

DOCK REPAIRS NECESSARY. [per press association.] DUNEDIN, July 12. The overseas steamer Pakeha returned here to-day from Timaru. She was leaking in the No. 2 tank. She returned for docking, but her draught was proving too great for her entry to a dry dock, unless lightened. She therefore sailed almost immediately for Wellington, for repairs in the floating dock. TIMARU DISCLAIMER. TIMARU, July 12. Interviewed to-night concerning the mishap to the “Pakeha,” the Harbourmaster at Timaru, Captain White, stated it was impossible that the vessel touched bottom at Timaru as she was only drawing 20 feet coming in, and there was 32 feet of water in the channel. There was the same depth of water going out, and the vessel was only drawing a few inches over 20 feet.
