PRISONERS SENTENCED
HAMILTON DECISIONS [PEB PRESS ASSOCIATION.] HAMILTON. May 31. Sentence of four years’ hard labour was imposed by Mr. Justice Reed, in. the Supreme Court, to-day, on Charles Henry Price, 57, who pleaded guilty to incest. Accused made a long statement from the dock, stating he had reared eleven children and experienced considerable hardship and ill-health, as the result of the depression. If allowed freedom, he promised to rehabilitate himself. I In passing sentence, His Honor said he looked upon the case as very bad indeed, pointing out that the gross behaviour of the accused had been forced on the girls accompanied by threats. He was the natural guardian of the children and had taken advantage of his position. Having been found guilty of indecent assault, Harold Kelly, 45, was sentenced to eighteen months’ hard labour. Counsel pleaded that drink was the cause of Kelly’s downfall. His Honor emphasised that children must, be protected and although the (■use was not of the worst type, it was bad enough. Still protesting his innocence, Rol>ert Mclntyre, 30. found guilty of receiving a stolen horse, appeared for sentence. His Honor stated that like the jury lie disbelieved the story of the accused. Strictly speaking, Mclntyre was an habitual criminal and would probably be declared such, if he appeared in Court, again. He had ability, and it was a pity he had not devoted it to an honest lift*. He was sentenced to twelve months' hard labour. COM MUN ITY PROITECTION. WELLINCTON. May 31.
