Mr A. Walton will leave to-morrow, for Sydney. Mr F. McDiarmid will leave tomorrow, on a visit to Wanganui. Mr K. McLauchlan left yesterday, on a holiday visit to Christchurch. , Messrs J. Peake and F. Shipley left yesterday, on return to Christchurch. Miss E. Peters returned yesterday, from Christchurch. Miss E. Heaphy returned yesterday, from a visit to Christchurch. Messrs C. Beaumont and P. Brown returned yesterday, to Christchurch. Mr P. Payne, senr., left yesterday, on return to Lyttelton. Mr G. E. Perkins returned yesterday, from Christchurch. Messrs J. O’Brien, M.P., and P. C. Webb, M.P., returned yesterday, from Wellington. Mr C. Good, of Wellington and formerly of Greymouth, is on a short visit to Greymouth. The death has occurred of Mr Dan Godfrey, Director of Music at Durban, and a son of Sir Dan Godfrey. A London cablegram stated that the King granted an audience to Lord Bledisloe on Wednesday. A Gisborne telegram stated that Mt Gaine Carrington, studmaster, died suddenly this morning, aged 66. Miss Alice Ashton, of Wellington, who has been visiting her cousin, Mrs Payne, Cowper Street, left yesterday, for Nelson. Mrs Webley, also of Wellington, accompanied her. The engagement is announced of Joyce, only daughter of Mr and Mrs J. Fowler, Cowper Street, to Raymond, second son of Mr and Mrs J. M. Bunt, High Street. A London cablegram stated that Richard Tauber (tenor) was affianced to Diana Napier, film actress. They fell in love when making the film “My Heart’s Delight" at Elstree. The Bishop of Nelson, Right Rev W. G. Hilliard, will arrive to-morrow, to attend the silver jubilee services at the Church of the Resurrection, Cobden, on Sunday. The engagement is announced of Eva, youngest daughter of Mr and Mrs E. W. Andrews, of St. Albans, Christchurch, and formerly of Greymouth, to John, eldest son of Mr and Mrs H. Minchin, of Greymouth.

Dr. H. M. Buchanan, Superintendent of the Mental Hospital at Auckland, has been transferred to take themporary charge of Porirua for six months. Dr. J. V- Williams, who is in charge of Porirua, has been transferred to Nelson, and the Nelson Superintendent, Dr. B. D. Hart to Auckland. All the transfers are for six months only.— Press Assn.

A London cablegram stated that at the annual festival of . the Grand. Freemasons Lodge, the Duke of Connaught was proclaimed as Grandmaster for the thirty-fifth year, seven days before his eighty-ffith birthday. Lord Empthill was appointed Pro Grand Master fbr the twenty-eighth year, and Lord Cornwallis as Deputy Grand Master for the tenth year.

Captain Hon. E. R. Drummond, who has been appointed to succeed RearAdmiral F. Burgess-Watson as Commodore in command of. the New Zealand Naval Station, arrived by the Mataroa at Auckland yesterday. He is accompanied by Lady Evelyn Drummond. Captain Drummond will take command from the date of the hoisting of the broad pennant, when Rear-Admiral Burgess-Watson leaves. The new Commodore will be received on board H.M.S. Dunedin to-morrow morning with the usual naval courtesies. Rear-Admiral Burgess-Wat-son, who took command of the New Zealand Station in April 1932, will leave Auckland by the Wanganella next Monday, for Sydney, en route for England.—Press Assn.

The death occurred this morning at the Grey River Hospital, of Mrs Florence Sheppard, a native of Kumara. Deceased, who had been ailing for some time, had resided practically all her married life in Greymouth. Her husband predeceased her some years ago. She is survived by five daughters, Mesdames Parmenter and Harries, and Misses Claire, Nell and Betty Sheppard, and two sons, James and Barney, all of Greymouth; also five sisters, Mesdames Newfield, Ellis, Bailey (Wellington), Taylor (Christchurch), and Miss Herring (Wellington); and five brothers, Richard (Hokitika), George, Hyde and Walter (Greymouth) and Sydney (Christchurch). The funeral will take place at Karoro Cemetery, to-morrow afternoon.
