WALLER’S FLIGHT. [BY CABLE —PRESS ASSN. —COPYBIGHT.] BRUSSELS, December 29. Waller and Franchomme on their return from Africa, were presented with flowers, and were carried to the pavilion. Neither appeared to be tired. General Gillieaux, commanding the Belgian Air Force, praised the regularity of their outward and homeward flights. The airmen, in reply, said that a future service would need planes with an equal speed to that, of the Comet, and should be equipped with wireless. It was difficult to make a comparison with the Melbourne race, as they were not racing. ROUMANIAN VENTURES. BUCHAREST, December 28. A monoplane built in Roumania, named “King Carol of Roumania,” is leaving here on Sunday for Australia. It is piloted by Vassile Dumltrescue, a 29-year-old lawyer, and a companion. King Carol farewelled the two airmen, who plan to reach Darwin in nine days. LATER. Dumitrescue, whose companion is Frimu, is flying a Roumanian two-seat-er tourer monoplane. Its top speed is 160 miles an hour, and its cruising speed 125 miles an hour. Other Roumanian airmen are simultaneously flying to Calcutta and Cape Town. . DUTCH “HOTEL” INSURANCE. AMSTERDAM, December 29. The Flying Hotel was insured approximately for £35,000, with a London company. BRITAIN’S DEFENCE. LONDON, December 29. The “Daily Telegraph” says that a scheme is being prepared to turn a large part of the Territorial force into anti-aircraft divisions. It is considered that forty thousand officers and men may be necessary to provide an adequate network of air defence. Regulars are too costly.
