HOKITIKA NOTES

JUBILEE PROGRAMME: The Jubilee at Hokitika to celebrate the 70th birthday of the town is proceeding successfully. During the week large crowds have been preseni jlay and night, and the various functions have passed off in a highly successful manner. To-day the Westland Racing Club is concluding its meeting and the event is largely attended. To-night the carnival spirit will be rampant in Revell Street when levels will be held at the intersection of Wold and Revell Streets. A string band will be in attendance to provide the music for folk-dancing and other pastimes, and the illuminations will be lit throughout the to^ n - On Sunday morning at 10.30 the old pioneers will march in procession to the respective churches for anniversary services. The Carnival will conclude on Monday which will be specially marked by the occasion of the South Westland Air Mail, followed by an aerial pageant, and a short function will be held on the return of the air mail at 3.30 from Okuru, when Captain Meicer will be congratulated on the success of the round trip. At night there will be a torchlight procession by the Fire Brigade with fireworks at Cass Square, and the carnival will conclude at midnight at the No. 1 I ne Station where there will be a; specia! fireworks display and community singinsr to wind up the memorable ocSsiou. Late trains will bo ran Iron, Hokitika on both Saturday and . Monday nights tor the “nven once o northern and wayside visitors, and it s expected there will be a large attendance to mark the concluding days of the carnival.
