REEFTON NOTES

[OUB OWN CORRESPONDENT.] REEFTON, December 29. Holiday traffic on the roads through Reefton has been heavier than it has been for some years and garage men report a busy time. A large number of cars with travellers are on the road, and the Maruia district has a full complement of visitors. • The Inangahua River is lower than it has been for many years, and near the .Town Bridge, the river is not ankle deep in places. A few drops of rain fell on Thursday and also on Friday afternoon, but although the sky is heavily clouded no sign of the rain can be seen. Bush fires are filling the Valley with smoke and motorists report that visibility at night is bad, the smoke forming a blanket which makes driving difficult. Mrs Clough and family, of Christchurch, are visiting Reefton. Mrs Churchill is visiting Christchurch. Mr F. De Tourettes and daughters are spending the holidays with Mr and Mrs Buckland, of Cronadun.
