’QUAKE' IN INDIA
LASTS FIVE MINUTES. [BY CABLE —PRESS ASSN. —COPYRIGHT.] CALCUTTA. December 16. The whole of northern India, central India and Burma have been shaken by a severe earthquake. The earthquake lasted for five minutes. The shock began at 7.30 o’clock yesterday (Saturday) morning. The epicentre of the upheaval is believed to be in Southern Tibet, two hundred miles north of Mount Darjeeling. The shock was so severe in Bombay City that the seismograph at the Colaba. Observatory was put out of action for several minutes. It is feared that Khartamandu, the capital of Nepal, is affected by the ’quake. IN ASIA MINOR. (Recd. December 17, 11.30 a.m.) CONSTANTINOPLE, December 16. An earthquake, which was recorded in many parts of the world yesterday, occurred near Tsapadjur, in Eastern Anatolia. The shocks were most violent. Thirty villages were destroyed, 12 persons killed, and 50 injured.
