OPERA HOUSE TO-NIGHT. “Yon Can’t Buy Everything,” a drama dealing with the amazing career of a female financial wizard, and in which May Robson and Lewis Stone are featured will be shown tonight. A Silly Symphony coloured cartoon, “Birds in Spring” will also be shown. “Her* First Mate” will be shown on Sunday night. Proceeds in aid of the Mayor’s Unemployment Fund. BLACKBALL TO-NIGHT. “The Squatter’s Daughter” will be shown to-hight and “You Can’t Buy Everything” on Saturday night. WALLSEN D SUNDAY. “Fugitive Lovers” will be shown Sunday night. RUNANGA TO-NIGHT. “Fugitive Lovers” will be shown tonight and “Strictly Personal” Sunday night. WAIUTA SUNDAY. “Bombay Mail” will be shown Sunday night. HERB. MOORE’S, TO-NIGHT. All supporters of the Convent Popular Girl candidate and dancers are requested to attend the modern and old-time dance at Herb Moore’s tonight. All arrangements have been made, to make.this the dance of the season. Excellent music and popular prices. SCHAEF’S DANCE. At the Monster Old Time Dance at Schaef’s spacious dance hall to-night, the care-free crowd will enjoy themselves dancing to the excellent music of Schaef’s full orchestra, so join in the mirth and merriment. The firstclass dance floor will be under the management of an efficient M.C.
HIGHLAND PIPE BAND CONTEST. The Highland Pipe Band Contest, to be run under the auspices of the Highland Pipe Band Association of New Zealand, will be held at Rugby Park, Greymouth, on Saturday next, commencing at 2.30 p.m. Six bands are competing—Ashburton County Pipe Band, Canterbury Caledonian Society Pine Band, Christchurch Scottish Pipe’ Band, North Canterbury Caledonian Pipe Band, Blackball Pipe Band and Runanga Pipe Band. On completion of the Quickstep, the massed Pipe Bands will play “Highland Laddie” under the baton of Pipe Major Findlay. In the evening at 8 o’clock at the Town Hall a grand Scottish concert will be presented, when visiting artists as well as lochl artists will contribute to the programme. Items by the winning band, Grey Caledonian Choir, Mrs W. Coltman, Miss M. Burgoyne and pupils, Miss Higson and Messrs T. Charteris, AV. Payne, H. Anderson, L. Payne, G. Wright, A. Airns and J. Hadland. Accompaniste, Miss J. Abbie, A.T.C.L. The presentation of trophies will be made by the Mayor, Mr J. W. Greenslade. Given fine weather both functions should be greatly patronised.
