DANCE RECITAL
A TOWN HALL SUCCESS. Miss Mavis Burgoyne had cause for gratification, last evening, at the Greymouth Town Hall, when she and her pupils presented a dance recital, in aid of the funds of the Runanga Pipe Band. There was a large attendance, and considerable enthusiasm prevailed throughout the evening. The programme covered a wide range of various styles of dancing, and a high standard was maintained. As was to have been expected, Miss Burgoyne was the star artiste, but each performer, juvenile and adult, was deserving of the applause greeting their efforts. The following was the programme; Pipe Band item (selected); Highland Fling, pupils; Clansmen Sword, pupils; dance, “Dawn,” Miss Lois Kennedy; vocal solo, Miss Lesley Marshall; tap duo, Miss M. Burgoyne and J. O’Donnell (Roa); “Swan” Dance, Misses Zeta and Imelda Austin; hunting ballet, Miss Patti Marshall and chorus; skipping rope dance, Miss Daphne Kennedy; eccentric dance, Miss Helen McLean; Irish Jig, Miss Mae Stewart; tap dance, Miss Mabel Hogg; “Rabbits,” Baby Ballet; Happiness Boys in popular trio numbers; Grecian Dance, Miss M. Hogg; “Bo Peep,” dance, Miss Dodo Moss; musical comedy ballet, “The Wind’s in the West”; Golden Idol, Miss Imelda Austin; finale, “We’ll All Go Riding on a Rainbow.”
Miss Peggy Carroll, L.T.C.L., capably led a special orchestra, which aided considerably to secure the success won. The songsters were also in good voice. Beryl Burgoyne was a picturesque page. The lavish gifts of flowers, chocolates, etc., that were handed to the performers at the end of the entertainment, which incidentally was well organised, were well earned. Mr R. A. Barrowman thanked the audience for the support given, and Miss Burgoyne and her company for the concert.
