WANGANUI V. MARLBOROUGH. [FEB- PBESS ASSOCIATION.] BLENHEIM, September 12. Wanganui defeated Marlborough by 20 to 8 to-day. The game wa.q played in beautiful weather. . There was a poor standard of play in the first spell, but in the second Wanganui took the lead and raced to victory with a fast open display. Wanganui scorers were Peterson, Jones, Fallas, Hutchison and Watty Thomson, and Morgan converted a try and kicked a penalty goal. Best and .Hardy scored Marlborough’s tries, Diack converting one. S. TIMARU, September 12. The New Zealand Maori team opened their tour to-day defeating South Canterbury by 23 to 16, after a bright exhibition. The visitors gained combination as the ' r anie progressed, and in the second half the play was sparkling, the scoring alternating in a manner which was a delight to the crowd. At the interval the score was three all, thirty-three of the points comingin the second half. WELLINGTON V. SOUTHLAND. INVERCARGILL, September 12. Wellington defeated Southland by IS to 12 in a fast keen game to-day. The weather was fine. RURU MEMORIAL CUP WELLINGTON, September 12. A notification that a gold cup in memory of the late Jack Ruru, the Maori footballer has been presented for annual competition among Maori players was received by the manage-, ment committee of the New Zealand Rugby Union, to-night. The trophy which was presented by Ruru’s father, Henare Ruru, and his cousin H. R. H. Balneavis of Wellington, is to be known as the Jack Ruru Memorial Cup, and donors expressed the wish that the cup be played for in conjunction with the annual match for the Prince of Wales Cup between Maori teams.

REQUEST FOR BLAZER. WELLINGTON, September 13. After a lapse of twenty-six years, the former All Black footballer, W. JReedy, of Wellington, wrote to the New Zealand Rugby Union asking to be supplied with a blazer which he claimed was due to him as a result of his having represented New Zealand against the Anglo-Welsh team which toured here in 1908. Reedy said that although he was measured for a blazer, for some reason he failed to receive it. Although twenty-six years had elapsed, he hoped it would be possible to grant him the honour of wearing a New Zealand Rugby blazer. The Chairman of the Management Committee (Mr S. S. Dean) said that so far as he was aware, the first time blazers were issued was in 1921. If he remembered correctly, caps only were given to representative players before that date.

The weekly meeting of the Inangahua Rugby Sub-Union took place last evening; present: Messrs J. Crossman (chairman), L. R. Austin, E. Duggan, A. G. Reid, A. Palmer, W. J. Barry, H. Kearns, and W. S. Pratt. An apology for absence was received from Mr Baumgart. A telegram received from Mr W. Archer, congratulating the Union on their win on. Saturday, was read, and it was decided to write, thanking him. It was decided to write to the West Coast Union, asking them if they can arrange to extend the excursion train to Christchurch for the West Coast — Canterbury match, .so as to include the Inangahua district, as there is a number desirous of making the trip. Word was received from Buller, advising that the Primary Shield competition team will be arriving in Reefton to-morrow (Thursday). It was decided to play this team on the Racecourse on Friday at 1 p.m., Mr A. Bradley to referee the match. Fixtures: —Friday: Reefton Racecourse, Buller Primary v. Inangahua Primary Schools, 1 p.m.; referee, A. Bradley. Sunday:—Junior: Fly-aways v. Catchems, 1.30 p.m.; referee, F. Grogan. Senior: Waratah v. Stars, Robertson’s paddock, 2.45 p.m.; referee, J.
