SYNTHETIC BLOOD

SUBSTITUTE FOR TRANSFUSION. Synthetic blood, with which it is hoped to prolong life, is being perfected in England and America. Already a cat which had lost all its blood has been enabled to live for 36 hours after injections of “synthetic blood” have been made. fl'his amazing result has been accomplished by Dr. W. R. Amberson, head of the Department of Physiology in the State College of Medicine at Memphis, Tennessee, Dr. A. G. Mulder, who is associated with this attempt to find a substitute for human blood transfusions, is in London engaged on experimental work along the same lines. It is explained that .an extract of ox blood is mixed with a solution, containing’salts which are known to be part of human blood. As simian blood is the nearest approach to human blood, monkeys are to be experimented upon next.
