OPIUM DEAL ALLEGED
DEFENCE IN THEFT CHARGE. [per press association.] AUCKLAND, September 13. An allegation that he gave a Chinese laundryman £5O cash, because the latter suggested it might be stolen from him, was made by a Chinese schoolboy, aged 14, in the police court, when Stanley Horne, 44, was charged with stealing £5O, belonging to Sang Fong. Accused made u counter-allegation that the boy gave him the money to buy opium, and they were to divide the profits. He he remitted the £5O to a Chinese in Sydney, and that he expected the opium to arrive by the Monowai next trip. He pleaded not guilty to the theft charge,' and was committed for trial.
