An examination of the body of Carmelo Mentisano revealed seventythree wounds, which were inflicted with a long, heavy filleting knife. Consetta Ciaquinta was remanded on a charge of murder. FEDERAL ELECTIONS. SYDNEY, September 13. An official return furnished by the Commonwealth Electoral Officer shows that 96,718 more persons are eligible to vote on Saturday than three years ago, the figures being 1.529,879, compared with 1.433,152. LOW BIRTH RATE. CANBERRA, September 12. The Commonwealth Statistician reports that Australia’s birthrate for 1933 was 16.76 per thousand of population. This was the lowest birthrate ever recorded in Australia. The marriages for the same year numbered 46,595, and were the highest number 'since 1929. The deaths of children under one year of age numbered 4357. This was the lowest rate, with the exception of that of New Zealand, in the world. Australia’s population increase in 1933 was 52,395.
