LEAGUE FOOTBALL

MANAGEMENT COMMITTEE MEET Members of the Management Committee of the West Coast Rugby League Centre met last, evening. Mr. A. H. McKane presided, Messrs. W. Barlow, B. Rathbun, J. Stokes, J. Griffen, B. Ramsay, J. Anisy, and R. J. Harrington (secretary), being also present. A vote of thanks was passed to all who had billeted the Canterbury schoolboy team during their visit to Greymouth. The Inangahua League wrote asking that an objection be lodged with the New Zealand Council against future South Island players in inter-island games, being delayed a day in Christchurch. The Centre Secretary was instructed to advise Inangahua that Mr. A. C. Hall had brought the mattex- to the notice of the New Zealand Council, when in Auckland with the South Island team. The Hornby Club (Christchurch) advised that its senior team •would play Pirates for the Thackex* Shield, at Greymouth, on September 22. Blackball Club entered a challenge fox- the Challenge Shield, and the match with Marist, was set down fop play next Sunday. Brunnex* fourth grade were given permission to play a friendly match, at Reefton, on September 23. The registrations of B. Debenham and P. Gilbert were received from the Marist seniors. Permission was granted the Royal and Club Hotel teams to play a match at Wingham Park, next Sunday afternoon.

FIXTURES. Seniors: Challenge Shield —Marist v. Blackball, Wingham Park, at 2.30 (J, O’Neill). junior: Brunnex- v. Pirates, Wingham Park at 1.15 (Stan Smith); Marist v. Runanga, at Rapahoe, 2.30 (C. Currie); Ngahere a. bye. Fourth Grade: Brunnex* v. Pirates, at Wingham Park, 1.15 (C. Restieaux); Marist a bye.

SUNDAY PLAY. CHRISTCHURCH, September 12. The statement that the churches were not opposed to organised football on Sundays reported to have been made at a meeting of the Canterbury Rugby League executive, was contradicted by the Christchurch Presbytery, this morning. It was decided to write to the City Council, and to the secretary of the League Executive, explaining the Presbytery was definitely opposed to organised games on Sunday.
