BLIND MAN STABBED
OUTRAGE AT AUCKLAND. [PUR PRESS ASSOCIATION.] AUCKLAND, September 7. A blind pensioner was savagely attacked and stabbed twice in the back, while at his home, early this evening. His assailant, who is pnknown, escaped, and the victim of tho assault was taken to the Auckland hospital. His condition is serious. The blind man is Thomas Francis Coype, aged 62 years. He is marrietj. Although seriously injured and bleeding freely from two deep knife wounds in the back, he was abje to give g coherent account of the affair. Hp said that he had gone to bed early, as was his custom, but he had occasion, about 7.15 o’clock, to go into the living room. He heard a man whispering, but ho did not catch the words. Without any warning, an unknown man stabbed him twice, the knife inflicting two severe gashes in Mr. Coyne’s back on the left side. Leaving 'the injured man, the assailant fled. Despite his wounds, Mr. Coyne did not collapse immediately. He called out to his wife, who was in bed, that he had been stabbed, and he made his way hack to the bedroom, where he fell to the floor in a semi-conscious condition. Mrs. Coyne roused relatives, who were living next door, and the ambulance was summoned.
