BOXING
TAILOR DEFEATS DAL COSTA. [per press association.] AUCKLAND, September 5. A return professional boxing contest staged between Frank Taylor (Auckland) and Dal Costa (bantamweight champion of New South Wales) was won by Taylor on points, at the end of the scheduled ten rounds. Although not quite so open and spectacular as the first match between the pail’ a fortnight previously, it was a hard fight all the way. The boxers obviously held great respect for each other. The result was a display of wonderful defence by both, with a good deal of infighting. Some very solid body punching was done by both, Taylor’s blows containing more, sting in them than those of the Australian. The pair finished comparatively fresh. They were accorded a fine ovation. Prior to the professional contest, the finals of the Auckland provincial championships were decided. The following were the winners: Flyweight, J. Maurice; bantam, P. Meyer; feather, C. Smith; light, W. Hogg; welter, J. Bakalich; middle, R. B. Marlin; light-heavy, H. E. Neale; heavy, H. Hepburn.
