MINOR COUNTIES v. AUSTRALIA (BY CABLE —PBEBS ASSN. —COPYRIGHT.] (Rec. September’ 6, 10 a.m.) LONDON, September 5. For the match against Minor Counties the weather was sunny and the wicket good. Australia omitted Bradman, Bromley, McCabe and O’Reilly. The twelfth man is Fleetwood-Smith. Minor Counties: G. S. Butler (Wiltshire), W. Harbord (Yorkshire), F. De Saram (Hertfordshire), Fishlock (Surrey), G. R. G. Tindale (Dorset), Fisher (Yorkshire), R. Relf (Berkshire), Phillipson (Lancashire), R. Rutter (Buckinghamshire), Ellis (Durham), Franklin. Minor Counties, including at least five players with first-class experience, provided Australia with fair opposition. Play was uneventful until the total was 48. Grimmett then dismissed Butler and De Saram with successive balls. Three wickets fell soon aftei* lunch. Then Relf joined Harbord in an excellent stand, which realised 54. The others failed to stay with Harbord, who carried his bat through the innings, and reached a century in 205 minutes. He hit 14 fours and was often attractive. Brown and Ponsford opened at 4.35, and scored steadily. Ponsford was out at 43, after which Brown and Darling sent the score along merrily, the 100 taking 75 minutes. Darling’s 50 occupied 70 minutes. Scores: —
