CHARGES OF FRAUD. [PER PRESS ASSOCIATION.] INVERCARGILL, September 5. Further charges ,of making false pay sheets were preferred against Charles Martin Todd and Cecil Lawrence Gilbertson, formerly employed in the office of the Southland County Council, in the Magistrate s Court today. Accused pleaded not guilty, and were committed for trial at the next sitting of the Supreme Court at Invercargill. Bail was allowed, with a proviso that each accused report daily to the police. Gilbertson and Todd were jointly charged with the theft between December 14 and December 23, 1933, of £4/8/9, the property of the Council, and further, on five counts with making false pay sheets pin-porting to be signed by James W. Fenton, the offences allegedly taking place during December, 1933. Todd was charged with the theft on April 14, 1933, while a servant of the Council, of the sum of £52/19/2, and was further remanded for a fortnight. .Jiertson, who appeared on remand from Monday, pleaded guilty to fourteen counts of as a servant Oi the Council, the total amount involved being £l6/11/9, and also to fourteen charges of forging pay sheets in respect of each amount, it being alleged that the name of A. E. iJowdall was used on, the sheets with intent that, the signature be acted upon as if it were genuine. He was remanded to the Supreme Court for sentence.
