ENTERTAINMENTS
OPERA HOUSE—TO-NIGHT. “Bitter Sweet” to be screened this evening and Thursday, will prove the most successful British picture, setting a standard in technique and entertainment value to surpass the best from Hollywood. Its artistic sets, tuneful music, magnificent photography and first-class acting are most impressive. Several members of the large cast repeat theii’ old parts. Ivy St. Helier, as Manon the cafe singer, and Clifford Heatherly, as the proprietor of Schlick’s cafe, are just as successful on the screen as they were on the stage. If one wants entertainment of the highest order, and to laugh a little, cry a little, and be transported to a realm of infinite charm and tenderness, one should not miss “Bitter Sweet.” At Blackball to-nignt “King of the Jungle” will be shown, and at Waiuta to-night, “Flying Devils” will be screened. CIVIC BAND DANCE. Thursday night brings something new for lovers of dancing. The above Band begin a series of weekly dances in the United Pavilion. Numerous requests have already been made for a modern and'old-time programme, and the Band Committee intend to cater for dancers’ tastes in that respect, thus pleasing everybody and so ensuring a large crowd and success. Each week will bring some new-nov-elty. No dull moments; a perfect floor; attentive M.C.; Billy Williams’ Orchestra, and—you will come up and see us—always.
