ASSAULT ALLEGED

DR. BRIDGEMAN SUED.. [PKB PSKBB ASSOOLATTOJT.] INVERCARGILL, September 4. At the Magistrate’s Court at Riverton this morning, before Mr E. C. Levvey, S.M., William Spencer, a war pensioner, claimed from Doctor J. W. Bridgeman, formerly of Riverton and now of Greymouth, the sum of £6O 10/for alleged assault. His statement of claim set out that on July 4, 1934, defendant had severely assaulted plaintiff by kicking him and striking him severe blows on the body, and that as a result, plaintiff had been confined to bed for several weeks, suffering from an accumulation of fluid on a lung, bringing on a recurrence of a tubercular trouble, which defendant had knowledge that plaintiff was suffering from. The claim was made up of £5O as general damages and £lO 10/- as medical expenses. Evidence on behalf of the plaintiff occupied the greater part of the day, the case then being adjourned to Invercargill without any definite date being fixed.
