On April 30 last there were 28,649,038 sheep in the Dominion, which is an increase of 893,072 on the total for the preceding year. The final figures are greater by 98,269 than the estimate which was published some mouths ago. This year’s total indicates an increase in the breeding stock of the Dominion and a change from the position two years ago when, on account of the prices being obtained, there were very heavy killings of lambs, thus depleting stocks. In 1930, when there was the highest total in the last seven years, the number of sheep was 30,841,287.
