SYDNEY SEASON OPENED. IBY CABLE —PBESS ASSN. —COPYBIGHT.] SYDNEY, September 3. The wool-selling season opened in Sydney to-day to crowded galleries. The market was fully equal to the Brisbane closing rates, but, compared with the opening rates of last season in Sydney, the best grown wools showed a fall of 20 per cent., whilst, in the cases of average to inferior descriptions, the decline ranged from 20 to 25 per cent. The highest prices of the day paid for greasy merino fleece was 17d for five bales from Mandurama. There was good competition, mainly from Japan and Yorkshire, with strong support from the local mills, and a moderate demand from the Continent The offerings totalled 8.965 bales, of which 6,670 were sold, also 2,570 bales privately.
