(PEB ?BEBB ASSOCIATION.] THIEF IMPRISONED. WELLINGTON, September 4. Hugh Johnston alias Thomas Woods, 37, seaman, caught stealing from the Panama Hotel, was sentenced to six months’ imprisonment. Accused had a long list of previous convictions. CAR CONVERSION. WELLINGTON, September 4. A youth of 19, Morris Murphy, was placed on probation for two years, for conversion of a car. Th© car was pursued by the police and retaken. In it were the accused, two young women and another young man, going home from a dance. BIGAMY CHARGE. BLENHEIM, September 4. At the Police Court, Charles Calloway, Wair'au Valley, farmer, 69, was charged with bigamy, evidence beinggiven that he married a widow named Elizabeth Hartley at Blenheim on September 9, 1922, and while she was still living went through a. form of marriage with Harriett Stephens-, also a widow, at Wellington, in April last. Accused pleaded not guilty, and was committed for trial, bail being allowed.
