BOXERS’ LOW WAGES
UNION TO DECIDE ON MINIMUM.' LONDON, July 23. The low wages paid in the majority of boxins programmes tor men in. the lesser categories formed the principal subject, of discussion at a provisional committee meeting in London on Saturday with the object of organising a National Union of Boxers. It was stated that although the minimum rate laid down by the British Boxing Board of Control was £l, boxers were frequently paid only a few shillings. One of the union’s first tasks will be to decide on a minimum rate. ~, Jimmy Wilde, the former world s fly-weight champion was selected chairman of the committee, whose aim, it was stated, was to “assist and not t,o hinder the work of the 8.8.8.
