Mr Lathan announced that the Cabinet decided to give further consideration to the question of the new cotton duties, which have aroused opposition among the English manufacturers. COMPANIES LEGISLATION. MELBOURNE, August 31. Mr Macfarlane states that the operation,of the Victorian Bill relating to the activities of certain companies, will be limited in operation to one year, because the legislation is drastic, and is designed to meet an emergency. The Bill comes before the Legislative Council next week.
