BOWLING

COAST CENTRE MEETING. The annual meeting of delegates of the West Coast Bowling Centre was held at Greymouth on Wednesday evening. Present: Messrs J. M. Bunt and J. Peek (Greymouth), Tail) (Reefton), W. Scott (Waiuta), T. Bowes and I Mossop (Runanga), and A. E. Benjamin (Hokitika), the lastnamed being voted to the chair. The Chairman referred to the losses by death among members of the, several clubs since last meeting, and the meeting stood in silence as a mark of respect and sympathy. The Westport Club wrote inquiring further particulars of proposal in regard to the suggestion for the holding of the annual tournament, but there being nothing definite before the meeting it was resolved to-allow the proposal to drop. On the motion of Messrs Bowes and Scott, it was resolved to hold the 1935 tournament at Greymouth, with any overflow at Runanga, the date being fixed, commencing on the second Monday in February. It was resolved to extend the tournament to six days, the rinks to be played on Monday and Tuesday, with semi-finals and finals on the Wednesday, and the pairs on Thursday and Friday, and the semifinals and finals to be completed on Saturday. The Runanga Club forwarded a balance sheet of the 1934 tournament and enclosing Centre’s quota of £9 8/-. Runanga jforwarded a puggfestion that all heads in the tourney be played out, instead of a time limit, but this was not approved. A suggestion that a shield be procured for competition among clubs, for rinks, caused considerable discussion. The suggestion was favourably considered. It was resolved that Centre ofli- i cials endeavour to encourage the 1 playing of more inter-club games i during the season, a decision in re- I gard to the procuring of a shield to be deferred to next meeting. The ad- j vancemcnt of the proposal was left ; to tho Executive to deal with. < The Treasurer reported that the 1 Centre had a credit balance of almost i £7O. J

In connection with the presentation of tournament certificates, some discussion arose as to the suitability of the latest series procured, and the President and Secretary were authorised to make inquiries with a view to procuring a more suitable memento for winners. The following officers were elected: President, Mr J. M. Bunt (Greymouth) ; vice-president, Mr T. Bowes (Runanga); secretary and treasurer, Mr W. H. D. Coltman (Greymouth); auditor, Mr J. Pearson; committee, Messrs Bowes and Mossop (Runanga), Cleaver (Reefton), Peek and Bunt (Greymouth), Scott (Waiuta) and Benjamin (Hokitika). It was decided to procure a number of copies of the model by-laws of the N.Z.8.A., some minor alterations to be made before distribution to members. In connection with the champion ol champion contests, a suggestion was made by the Greymouth delegates for these to include rinks, pairs and singles. It was resolved to write to the Reefton and Waiuta Clubs to inquire if they were willing to take part in such a series of contests, the executive to draw up suggestions for the playing of these games. The Chairman reported on the visit of the team representing West Coast to Westport last season, which proved enjoyable and successful in spite of weather conditions on the way. It was resolved that the Buller Centre be invited to make the return visit as early in the season as possible. In this connection, with a

view to more frequent contests between the two centres, it was resolved that the executive officers of the Buller Centre be invited to confer with the Coast Executive on the occasion of that visit with a view to a definite arrangement being agreed upon; also to notify the Buller Centre that the annual tournament would he held at Greymouth, and invite the support of that Centre thereto. It was reported that Mr A. A. Adams, the retired secretary, was improving, and it was resolved to forward a letter to him expressing regret at his severe illness and wishing him a speedy recovery to good health. A vote of thanks was passed to Mr W. Scott, acting secretary since last meeting, for services rendered. A suggestion by Mr Scott for the procuring of a bowl testing plant was dizcussed, but it was decided to take no action.
