Wilson, 37, married, railway employee, suffered severe spinal injuries. He died in the hospital this morning, PAKAPOO GAMBLERS. WELLINGTON, August 30. Fines totalling £lO5 were imposed on three Chinese by Mr. E. Page, S.M., for using premises as common gaming houses. Defendants appeared as. the result of pakapoo raids. People found on the premises were fined ten shillings each. 1 KILLED BY TREE. CHRISTCHURCH, August 29. Alfred Duffell, aged 44 years, a relief worker, was killed to-day while cutting branches off a tree at Rangiora racecourse. Duffell had been given permission to cut branches of trees for firewood. He was in the fork of a tree, cutting a branch, when the branch fell, severely, and killing him instantly. CHILD DROWNED. INVERCARGILL, August 29. A drowning fatality occurred in Pourakino River, near Riverton, last evening, the body of Letitia Josephine Wells, aged 13, being found in the water. She was a daughter of Frederick Wells, engine driver at More’s Mill, Granity, and live<j at the mill. Her’ brother last saw her at 6.30. and an hour later her body was found. It is thought that, while on a bridge, she became faint, and fell into the river, which is only a few chains from hei home. DIVORCE COSTS. WELLINGTON, August 29, Whether the Court hau power to refuse to make a decree nisi absolute on respondent’s motion, unless and until respondent paid the petitioner’s costs, as ordered by the decree nisi in question, was what Mi Justice Ostler had to decide in the Supreme Court. His Honor held that the Court has such power. Petitioner in the suit for divorce was Eileen Irene Dimery, and the respondent Arthur Thomas Dimery. Justice Ostler said the respondent wanted to take advantage of one part of the decree nisi, while not being willing to comply with another part. He adjourned the application sine die, until the costs of the petitioner were paid by the respondent.
