FIREMEN’S NEW HELMETS

THE END OF BRASS. The brass helmets which have been worn by members of the London Fire Brigade for the past seventy years are soon to disappear. The L.C.C. have decided to replace them with a new type Of helmet, the materials of which include cork and rubber. The change is being made because of the danger of electric shocks to wearers of brass helmets. Some years ago a Station Officer lost his life at a fire through his helmet coming in contact with an electric cable. The Fire Brigade Committee of the L.C.C. have examined various type of helmet used on the Continent. The one decided on will be lighter and more comfortable than those now in use. Brass helmets will be retained for use on ceremonial occasions.
