GREYMOUTH DEFEAT HOKITIKA.

Challenge matches were played at the Greymouth Club’s links at Kaiata during the week-end for the Dalgleish Shield, and the Field Cup, and in both cases Greymouth were victorious over the challengers. Hokitika. The Dalgleish. Shield for seniors was won by the holders by 41 strokes, and the junior match for the Field Cup was also won by Greymouth bj a -substantial margin. Scores in the Dalgleish Shield match were: —

In the Field Cup competition for juniors, Greymouth -defeated Hokitika by 15 games to 2. HOLE-IN-ONE.

In the Dalgleish Shield match yesterday, W. P. McCarthy, of the Greymouth team, became the first player to hole out in one on the new course at Kaiata. He accomplished this feat at the ninth hole <(the Terrace), a distance of 120yds. This is the second time in recent years that Mr McCarthy has holed out in one, on the Grey Club’s course, the previous occasion being on the old Omoto course. GREY CLUB MATCHES. Club matches played on the Kaiata links during the week-end resulted: MEN’S BOGEY MATCH: A. K. Smith, all square. L. A. Doolan, one down. MEN’S INTERMEDIATE MATCH. M. James, four down. F. Boustridge, five down. E. Langbein, six down. The junior match resulted: R. Carroll, three down. H. Howes, five down.

LADIES’ MATCHES.

The qualifying round of the championship was played on the links at Kaiata last week. Those who qualified. in the senior division were Mrs Hannan, Mrs Cunningham, Miss N. Tennent, Miss Griffen, Miss Kelly, Mrs McCarthy, Mrs Prescott, Mrs McKay. The draw is:— Mrs Hannan v. Mrs McKay. Miss Griffen v. Miss Kelly. Miss N. Tennent v. Mrs McCarthy.' Mrs Cunningham v. Mrs Prescott. The junior division to qualify were Miss C. Tennent, Miss Jean Hambleton, Miss Berry, Mrs Smith, Miss Cairney, Mrs Meade, Mrs Warnes, Mrs Kitchingham. The draw’ for match play is: Miss C. Tennent v. Mrs Kitchingham. Mrs Smith v. Miss Cairney. Miss Berry v. Mrs Meade. Miss Jean Hambleton v. Mrs Warnes. The Medal Match played in conjunction with the qualifying round w r as won by Miss Kelly (senior) and Miss Jean Hambleton and Miss Cairney, a tie (junior).
