WALKER-BEY v. REFEREE.

DUNEDIN, August 12.

Ali Bey was disqualified in his bout with George Walker last night, when, in the sixth round, he struck the referee on the back of the neck during a hectic mix-up between Walker, Bey and the referee, and was disqualified. Early in the bout it became evident that the wrestlers were going to give the referee trouble, when, at the end of the second round, they refused to go to their corners. In trying to drag them apart, the referee was thrown into the ropes, and had his set of artificial teeth broken. In the sixth round, Walker jumped on Bey as be lay in the ropes, and then Bey got out of hand. When he connected with a solid blow to the back of the referee’s neck, the latter had no choice but to award a fall to Walker. Previous to that Bey had taken a fall in the third round with a body press, following a series of head throws. Walker had evened in the fifth round with a body press after, a solid dump, and was attacking in the sixth when the incident happened which led to Bey’s disqualification. LURICH DEFEATS PENCHEFF. SYDNEY, August 12. At Leichardt Stadium, Tom Lunch retained the Australian heavyweight wrestling championship by defeating George Pencheff by two falls to on?, in a clean, versatile, willing contest.
