FRUIT CONFERENCE
AUSTRALIA AND N. ZEALAND. [BY CABLE —PRESS ASSN.- -COPYKIGHT.] . z - SYDNEY, June 27. The annual conference of the New South Wales Fruitgrowers’ Federation opened to-day. The President, Mr. I. Heane, said that, despite all of the efforts made for improved trade relations with New Zealand, he was of the opinion that no progress would be made until the New Zealand Government had given its apple and pear growers the opportunity to try out the American market. Nothing would be done to prejudice those efforts, he added. The recent Canberra conference had made satisfactory proposals in regard to the New Zealand — Australian trade in fruit. * A delegate, Mr. A. Herring, however, contended that the local apple and pear growers had been badly let down by that Conference at Canberra. Other delegates insisted that the Government must' take all precautions to prevent the introduction of the fireblight disease. The Commonwealth Government has decided to renew for 1934 its guarantee for the reimbursement of the out-of-pocket expenses to the exporters of citrus fruits to countries other than New' Zealand. This action has resulted in a. tremendous increase in the export of organes to the United Kingdom.
