WIMBLEDON RESULTS

CRAMM OUTCLASSES ANDREWS “TO LOOK LIKE NOVICE” [BY CABLE—PBESS ASSN.—COPYBIGHT.] (Received June 28, 10 a.m.) LONDON, June 27. At Wimbledon, Andrews on the centre court, strove heroically with little result to cope with Cramm’s scintillating offensive. Cramm played classic tennis in the first set. The oldest critics expressed the opinion that nothing better was ever seen at Wimbledon. He pldyed every shot with complete confidence and control. He led 5/1 in the second set before he relaxed slightly. He erred occasionally, but appeared to be able to score the winning point when needed, Andrews was playing well enough to worry any top notcher, but at times Cramm made him look a novice. The courts were slow after the rain.

Austin, stroking with unerring accuracy, was too good for Turnbull. Merlin was upset by Hopman’s tactics in mixing lobs, with slow .angled drives. Rain twice interrupted the Craw-ford-Collins match. The Australian made frequent errors in the first set, but thereafter took command, driving accurately. Mrs Hopman, playing correct base line tennis, proved a little too accurate for the American, Rise. Results were:—
