CEYLON THRONE

KING’S KINDLY ACTION

[BRITISH OFFICIAL WIRELESS.] RUGBY, June S. The King is anxious that the visit to Ceylon of the Duke of Gloucester should be marked by some expression of his personal favour towards his Ceylonese subjects. He has accordingly decided to restore to Ceylon, the ancient throne of the Kings of Kandy, which has been preserved in Windsor Castle for a hundred years, and he has charged the Duke of Gloucester with the duty of making a formal presentation to the Ceylon Government. His Majesty believes that the return of the historic monument will be agreeable to the views widely enteitained by all sections of the Ceylon community.
