REEFTON NOTES
[OUB OWN OOBBESPONDMNT.] REEFTON, May 16. Mr. and Mrs. G. J. Dick and family Icfl for Christchurch yesterday. The residents of tho Maritin, district organised a concert and dance in aid of the X-Ray Fund for the Inangahua Hospital, Reefton, and as a result, the sum of £8 was realised. This has been handed to the Inangahua Hospital Board. The purchase of the X-Ray plant lias more than .justified itself, for in the four months in which the unit, has been installed, a great saving to residents has been effected. Yesterday was a miserable day. Heavy rain fell practically all day and with a steady driving Wind allied to a good drop in temperature, people were glad to remain indoors. Mr. and Mrs. E. J. Conway left Reefton yesterday for Wellington, after 45 years’ continuous residence in Reefton. Mrs. Conway’s indifferent health has made the shift necessary.
A sitting of the Conciliation Council was to have been held at Reefton yesterday, but owing to the fact that the Miners’ Union would not consent to lhe taking of a secret ballot on the Blackwater Mines Company’s undisclosed offer, the Commissioner did not travel to the Coast.
