[PEB PBESB ASSOCIATION.] KILLED BY TAXI. AUCKLAND, May 15. . A fatal accident occurred in the city this evening, an elderly man, who lias not been identified, being killed almost instantly when he was struck by a taxi-cab. He was crossing the road, carrying a. sack of wood.
LORRY’S ONE LIGHT. WELLINGTON, May 16. James Sheridan, lorry driver, was lined £1 for having only one light on his lorry on the morning of April 28. This was the occasion when the lorry struck a bicycle ridden by W. T. Cotton at Lower Hutt. Cotton subsequently died. It was stated that civil proceedings were pending. COMPANY INQUIRY. AUCKLAND, May 15. Further evidence was heard privately by the Company Promotion Commission to-day. Various companies have offered to assist the Commission by tendering evidence in regard to their own history and accounts, and it is with evidence of that type that the Commission is now concerned.
“We have appointments for over a week ahead, with witnesses who will give that class of evidence,” said the Chairman.
