SOCCER FOOTBALL

SATURDAY’S RESULTS. Further progress was made with local fixtures over the week-end when alter sultry weather conditions prevailing in (he morning, the afternoon produced, something of a more favourable standard. The senior grade game at. Dobson resulted in Greymoulh being defeated by tho home team, four goals to nil, and at Victoria Park, Runanga beat Blackball, eight goals to two. In (he junior grade, Runanga defeated Marists by two goals to nil, and in the third grade Cobden and d'echnical gained the points. Cobden and Greymoulh drew in the fourth grade, whilst the other game was won by ’reelinical A. DOBSON 4. v. GREYMOUTH 0. A fair attendance at Dobson saw the home team maintain its unbeaten record at the expense of Greymouth to the tune of four goals to nil. For the winners, Rush, Nordstrom and Coutts played best, whilst of the Greymoulh team Hunter, Hall, F. and N. Bayley showed to advantage. The teams were: — Dobson: Pickering; Erskine, White; Wick, Richardson, Hamilton; J. Coutts, A. Coutts, Rusli, Short, Nordstrom. Greymoulh: Stitt; McNeil, Hall; Timlin, Hunter, Wood; F. Bayley, N. Bayley, De Freatus, Martin. Referee: Mr R. Nelson, Blackball.

Play see-sawed up and down the field, neither side gaining any prolonged advantage. Greymouth pressed the Dobson defence, N. and F. Bayley combining well in some pretty movements. Dobson had a very narrowescape when, from a concerted attack by Greymouth, Pickering let the ball slip from his hands, bu,t he quickly recovered. Dobson then broke away and Coutts capped off a nice movement by sending a pile-driver into the corner of the net. From the kick-off Greymouth pressed hard and scrambling play ensued at the Dobson goal-mouth, the latter conceding several corner-kicks. Dobson then broke away and after desultory play Dobson. in a concerted movement, rushed the Grelmouth goal and Nordstrom bustled Stitt to gain a goal. Play was uncertain at this, stage, with Greymouth more on the offensive but unable to press home their territorial advantage, whereas Dobson, only occasionally attacking, were dangerous every time. F. Bayley, on the right Wing, was sending over some good crosses, but de Freatus, at centreforward, was off his game. Marley made several nice runs down the left wing, but his centres were not turned to advantage. At half-time the score was unchanged, with Dobson on attack. Dobson 2, Greymou.th 0. On resumption of play, Greymouth attacked determinedly, but De Freatus was indecisive, when accepting a pass. From one of Dobson’s occasonal sallies to the opposing goal mouth Nordstrom crossed for Rush, close up, to tap the ball into the net. The Bayley brothers were prominent in a nice movement which ended, however, in Marley shooting past from a difficult angle. Play alternated between the tw-o goals, neither side holding the advantage for long. Several free kicks were awarded' each side, mostly for hands, but little advantage was gained from any. Greymouth now attacked, and in this respect did much more than Dobson, but, however, lacked the finesse to finish off the movement. Another goal resulted from a Dobson offensive when Rush beat Stitt with a close range piledriver. F. Bayley put in a nice run on the right, finishing off with a good cross, but Martin was bustled and did not get the opportunity to shoot. At this stage Greymouth did all the attacking, as before, with Dobson breaking away occasionally. At the final whistle the score was unchanged —Dobson 4, Greymouth 0.
