WATERFRONT DISPUTES

TROUBLE AT LYTTELTON [PEB PBESS ASSOCIATION.] CHRISTCHURCH, April 18. Waterfront disputes continue at Lyttelton, causing an unsettled feeling regarding the working of ships. Overtime was refused, last evening, when the men were asked to work the Waimarino, and the Waikouaiti. Work was resumed this morning, but a fresh hitch occurred, when they discovered that odd sacks of potatoes, being shipped by the Waimarino to Auckland, were overweight. They refused to handle them, despite an offer of extra pay. The loading of meat on the Akaroa was. delayed for an hour and a-half, this morning, because the men demanded extra pay. They are now working under protest, while the Disputes Committee considers the matter.

o The Blue Star steamer Trojan Star remains idle all day, because the men demand payment from 8 o’clock instead of from 10 o’clock, which the employers refused.
