CROQUET
COAST TOURNEY OPENS.
The annual r West Coast croquet championship tourney, controlled by the Croquet Association, commenced on the Mhkura Club’s lawns this morning, in glerious weather. There are entries from all over the West Coast, and the addition of Mr. Hart (Timaru), Mr. Rhodes-Williams (Christchurch), Mrs. Gilbert (Westport), and Mrs. Nottle (Westport), all players of experience, who have competed at Dominion tournaments, should ensure an interesting series of competitions, with high-class croquet. The lawns are in excellent condition, after the dry spell, and are playing fast and true. It is hoped to complete the tournament by Wednesday.
Results of matches played before the “Star” went to press were: —
HANDICAP SINGLES—B GRADE. First Round: Miss Sheedy beat Miss Pratt 26/11. Mrs. Haglund beat Mrs. Howard 26/12. Mrs. Erickson beat Mrs. Wilson 26/7. Mrs Moss beat Mrs. Hogg 26/12. SILVER BUTTONS—B. SECTION. Mrs. Howard beat Mrs. Coburn. Mrs. Howard (Runanga) will meet Mrs. Perry (Hokitika) in the final.
