Mrs. H. Lima and Miss D. Lima returned by Saturday’s express from a holiday visit to Auckland.
A cablegram from Paris stated that Mrs John Brownlee (wife of the Australian singer) has given birth to a sou, who is to be named David.
Mrs F. Jacobs, South Beach, who underwent an operation at the Grey Hospital last week, is progressing favourably.
Mr David W. Madden, of Wellington, has been elected-President of the National Council of the Licensed Trade of New Zealand, in succession to the late Sir Alfred Bankart, 0.8. E.
Mr R. F. Dewar, second officer' of the s.s. Gabriella, was invalided ashore on Saturday, and entered the Grey Hospital to undergo an operation.
The engagement is announced of Edna Doris, eldest daughter of Mrs J. K. Primmer, and the late Mr P. Primmer, -Christchurch, to Albert George, youngest son of Mr W. F. G. Pullin, and the late Mrs M. Pullin, of Greymouth.

A London cablegram announced the death of Rev. G. B. Bourchier, formerly vicar of St. Anne’s, Soho, who preached his farewell sermon, announcing his probable early death, on December 3 last. Since then he visited South Africa as the guest of Sir Abe Bailey, and returned on March 5, much improved. He hoped to return to church work, but he caught cold and died of pneumonia.
The death occurred at Christchurch, this morning, of Miss Mary Ellen Crowley, eldest daughter of the late Jeremiah and Annie Crowley, late of Blue Spur, Hokitika. Deceased resided for some years in Greymouth, but left for Christchurch nine years ago. She took an active part in charitable work in the city, and in the work of the Cathedral of the Blessed Sacrament. She is survived by three sisters (Misses E. and J. Crowley and Mrs D. O’Neill, all of Christchurch). TheThterment will take place on Wednesday, at the Bromley Cemetery, Christchurch.
The death took : place yesterday of James Hunter, late of Westport, at the residence of his daughter, Mrs. C. Sneddon, Cobden. Deceased, who had resided in New Zealand 59 years, was a native of Dairy, Ayrshire, Scotland, aged 79 years. He came to the Dominion, with his wife in 1875, and settled at Dunedin, but, after twelve years’ residence there, he came to the West Coast. Deceased had resided here since, working until a few years ago. His wife predeceased him two years ago at Christchurch. He is survived by three sons, Peter (Hamilton), Alex, and John (Westport), and three daughters, Mrs. D. McKenzie (Wellington), Mrs. T. Heney (Christchurch), and Mrs. C. Sneddon (Cobden). The interment will take place at Christchurch.
