The art of dancing has in recent years advanced at Greymouth by leaps and bounds, but the public have not yet had such an opportunity to realise the grace and effectiveness of the latest standards as that afforded them on Thursday next, March 22, at the Town Hall, when the West Coast School of Dancing, of which the Principal is Miss Dorothy Thwaites, will ipresent a magnificently spectacular Dance Revue, something far more ambitious than any previous display of dancing locally. No fewer than sixty artists are taking part, and for some time every one of these pupils have been assiduously rehearsing. The revue, which will exhibit every phase of the terpsichorean art, opens with a very enchanting scene, entitled “The Fountain of Youth,” with a full chorus of dancing girls. A very beautiful ballet follows, “The Raindrops,” in which the dainty peacock will be depicted strutting in the garden, the .graceful swan swimming on the lake, the water-lilies reposing on the water, and finally Pan and the dancing nymphs. This ballet is sure to create a furore. Other spectacular numbers include a military tap ballet, entitled “Red, White, and Blue,” which may be expected to enthuse all who appreciate this type of ballet. There is also another interesting chorus “Hello, Gorgeous.” The programme will be interspersed with vocal solos, which are being entrusted to popular artists, including Mr Harold Prescott’s pupils. The dressing of the dancers will be superfine, and it will be heightened in effect by special lighting in the expert hands of Mr Tom Clarke. The orchestra will be under Miss Molly Clayton’s direction. The box plan is now open at Kilgour’s Warehouse.
